Inspiring New Ways

A significant facet of my job as a producer is to ensure that our planned milestones are on track and that the development team is set up with everything they need to succeed. In parallel, I must determine how I can best support the team to achieve the highest quality possible while being accountable for deliverables and dependencies on my plate. Making games requires collaboration and integration across many disciplines, and having Bart involved in this process from a technical perspective has been great!

I can’t mention too much about what I’m currently working on, but I can say that integrating Bart into technical discussions and collaborations with our development team has been a rewarding experience. his knowledge and expertise on rendering is an enormous asset to the internal team, and having him engage a few minutes here and there with my external partner has led to key knowledge sharing as well as uncovering new, unique ways to enhance the game experience.

An example of this would be while reviewing an early iteration of a flashlight beam in one of our levels, Bart suggested looking further into how the light was refracting and employing methods to adjust the bloom effect and intensity to enhance the volumetric look of the light cast. The team thought further on Bart’s suggestions and observations and refined the flashlight beam. Our flashlight has definitely come a long way thanks in part to Bart’s input.

In turn, Bart is able to gain much exposure to the latest and greatest in our engine, scripting and rendering tech to potentially adapt on his internal title efforts. It’s open collaboration and knowledge sharing like this that makes Santa Monica Studio unique and great. We’ve all been doing this for a while, and sharing what we know while learning during the process only makes us stronger and better.
